Posted by Portrait| Los Angeles Skid Row (Los Angeles, United States) on 14 September 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.
Classic Americana at its best. Sadly, this is only a skid row movie set. But it shares a story of legacy.
At one time downtown Los Angeles was called the "Wall St. Of the West" and the "Historic Core" of the city is truly wonderful.
There are great old bank buildings with brass and tile trim, some have been vacant since the 70s.
Drugs and poor urban plans failed to keep this historic downtown section alive.
Viet Nam Veterans returned home on the West Coast, broken and frail. Then gangs became a major factor in the supply and demand of drugs.
The original era of this image is where skid row's current culture started.
Skid Row Portrait is the story and struggle of humanity to find some aspect of peace while living in extreme poverty. Today, this Great Americana is still filled with wounds of injustice.
