High Above Skid Row

Posted by Portrait| Los Angeles Skid Row (Los Angeles, United States) on 12 September 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

The party happens high above Skid Row in the lofts.

Funny, drugs and drink are okay there. But - in the middle of the party there is still a brokeness of life, where people hide from the legacy of wealth. It is cool to be downtown now. Regardless of how many single mothers and their children sleep in homeless rescue missions. And the starting price of $2000 a month is okay.

Downtown is the new mecca for gentrification. Where, pop culture spreads its wings and takes flight, in search for a new domain.

This is a time when housing cost spin out of control for the poor, but - for the new starlets and young pop culture producers urban dwelling is chic and cool.

High above skid row nobody cares about poverty, healthcare, or a place to sleep.

The younger crowd of Los Angeles buy into the branding. They purchase the rights to own the new urban dream.

This image is not about the quailty of the photo... It is all about the contrast of the lifestyles of the rich and poor.
