The Skid Row Bus to Americana

Posted by Portrait| Los Angeles Skid Row (Los Angeles, United States) on 9 September 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

This bus is odd, it makes me think about how life must have been in the 50's during the civil rights in America.

I missed that era, however this bus is old. The people all look tired, and worn, and they all carry some kinda heavy burden.

Several Facts:

1) There maybe two busloads from skid row everyday. About 200 humans climb onto a bus. They are showered, rested and provided food.

2) Everyday about 200 humans climb back onto a bus, and come back down the nickel into downtown skid row.

How odd?

They were free; the doors were open...

Hence, my thought is... The bondage of stress and brokeness don't allow for much hope to filter into our actions.

Yes our!

One never really can be sure that they will not wake-up one morning on skid row.

There is a man that screams out loud "..oranges.." That's all he says.

There is a human that jumps and grunts about every 30 seconds.

Issues of mental illness loom large. It seems that everyone that lives on the streets suffers from some mental disorder. Some will argue that living on the street is like camping...how odd?

Others dip into their pockets and display a wad of cash.

Not all homeless people are poor, some think they are beating the "system."

How strange is that?

Peace.
