Confused, broken and lost on skid row; life in America for migrants is life as a homeless soul.
They come to carry the red, white and blue flag... To join a culture that is presented in media imagery.
Real life or Pop life... Migrant life in the promised land often feels more like a slave to a culture that does not even know you are in their land.
The hidden culture.

@Twelvebit: Those posters, yes those posters are very important to the skid row story.
You won the big prize, you are the first person to write to me about them.
Those images would never be presented in that way in any district of los angeles, but skid row.
May I add that accross the street is a police station.
That corner is 5th and Wall St, more drugs are still sold outside every day then you could ever imagine. The drugs are used to fuel primal urges ...sex happens to be one of those urges. Love is not included in the thought of sex on the skid row... Love is not a functional emotion down the nickel(skid row).
I was recently invited to directly meet some of the new drug gangs that run that corner.
But, back to the posters...the images of half naked females on display at that size screams hate toward women, and then they are in a zone of utter poverty...what really is the product in America.
When you include the factors of race, self-race hate, broken families and runaway teen girls. This image makes me sick, the injustice is so very open for all to see.
Gosh, I bet there are more sexual crimes daily on skid row then most places in the country. Women turn tricks for $5 and a hit of crack. Hundreds of convicted sexual criminals live on skid row...and that's a fact!
Now, combine that bit of information with this: there are 1000's of kids that "live" in skid row welfare hotels, rescue missions, and battered family shelters.
Hope for peace.
I think we made some progress for women for awhile --at least for some women. But yes, I'm not prudish by any means, but I think the context is important, and these posters, where they are, represent regression to a more primitive state. Such as they are, they represent the unattainable --women that wouldn't even talk to someone on Skid Row.
