One Time, Po Po, Cops, Feds...
These are just a few of the names for police down on 5th St.
One time backdoor...means that the police are crusing up the block. Horseback, bike, on foot, or in squad cars...I have seen them jump from windows, out of low flying helicopters...and out of fast moving cars.
But what I will recall most is how the police have helped to clean-up the crime, and gangs.
There was a time when a photographer could not even carry a camera in the open on the skid row without getting a mob style beating, maybe killed.
Now don't get me wrong...Skid Row is still filled with danger, death and crime.
I have covered conflicts around the globe, and two years ago skid row created that same sense of fear, danger, my heart would pound as the crips, blood and mexican mafia would gather around and ask that one important question ... Are you a Fed?
The elements of crime there can smell fear. Just like in a global conflict hotspot.
